For the first time, an attempt has been made to critically evaluate the total process of systematic training in a Service with a view to highlighting the roles of organizations, training institutions and the individuals in the context of providing training opportunities to the officers and its impact on an individual as well as at the organizational level. It deals with various factors that influence each one of them in achieving the ultimate objectives of efficiency of functioning of the organization and various other factors which determine the effectiveness of training : selection of trainees, clarity of objectives, transfer of learning, posttraining follow up, etc. Will help all training managers and practising human resources management specialists, training institutions and the human resource or personnel department of every organization.
