
MARILLE HOEFNAGELS
Mari?lle Hoefnagels is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and the Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology at the University of Oklahoma. She teaches courses in introductory biology, mycology, and science writing. Her teaching excellence has been recognized with the University of Oklahoma General Education Teaching Award and the Longmire Prize, also known as the Teaching Scholars Award from the College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, she has received honorary memberships in several student honor societies.
Dr. Hoefnagels earned her BS in Environmental Science from the University of California, Riverside, her MS in Soil Science from North Carolina State University, and her PhD in Plant Pathology from Oregon State University. Her doctoral research focused on using bacterial biological control agents to mitigate fungal pathogen spread on seeds.
In addition to authoring Biology: The Essentials and Biology: Concepts and Investigations, Dr. Hoefnagels has published recent works on developing investigative teaching laboratories and incorporating technology into introductory biology courses. She also maintains a blog dedicated to teaching non-majors biology and regularly presents on study skills and related topics to student groups across campus.
