
Renu Roy
An eminent personality in the performing and visual arts arena, Renu Roy was the founder-Director of Kolkata?s reputed cultural organisation Spandan, a joint initiative with Aparna Sen and the late Rituparno Ghosh. In an illustrious career that has spanned five decades, she has also been closely associated with theatre as an accomplished actor, producer, and director. Renu has received several prestigious awards including the Bharat Nirman, Women Achievers, and Kalakar Awards, for her noteworthy contribution to the cultural field. A major milestone was the National Film Festival Award, ?The Golden Lotus? for ?Best Film? 1994, which she received for her widely-acclaimed feature film Unishe April. Over the years, she has written several articles on a wide variety of subjects and was a regular contributor to the Telegraph?s column ?Eye On Kolkata?. She broke the glass ceiling when she was elected as the first woman President of The Saturday Club, a 114-year old institution in Kolkata.
