
Basu Kaushik
Kaushik Basu is a well known Indian economist, academician, columnist and author. His other books on economics include The Concise Oxford Companion To Economics In India, Beyond The Invisible Hand: Groundwork For A New Economics, The New Oxford Companion To Economics In India, An Economists Miscellany, India's Emerging Economy: Performance And Prospects In The 1990s And Beyond, Inter-Disciplinary Transgressions: Political Economy, Moral Philosophy, And Economic Sociology and Readings in Political Economy. Kaushik was born in 1952 in Kolkata, India. He attended St. Xavier?s Collegiate School, Kolkata. He did his undergraduate studies in Economics from St. Stephen?s College, Delhi. He then enrolled in the London School of Economics for his Master?s degree, and later for his Ph.D. He began his career as a lecturer at Reading University, and after his return to India he joined as a professor of economics at the Delhi School of Economics. He currently serves in the World Bank as the senior vice president and chief economist. Kaushik is married to Alaka Malwade, and has two children, Diksha and Karna.
