Prof Sunetra Roday

Sunetra Roday is a Food Safety, Nutrition and Wellness Specialist, and the Former Principal of Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (MSIHMCT), Pune. She is an alumnus of Lady Irwin College, Delhi, and has two post-graduate Degrees to her credit. Her rich and varied experience spanning over four decades, primarily includes educating not only craftsmen, diploma, degree and postgraduate students, but also reaching out to people from all strata of society, imparting knowledge and skills in food production, food science, nutrition, diet therapy, hygiene and sanitation. She started her professional career in 1980 as a Lecturer in Food Science at MSIHMCT, Pune, and has been working all along with various NGO?s, Corporates, Women?s groups and School children as part of the Institutes community activities, highlighting the importance of Food Science, Nutrition, Hygiene and Food Safety in our day-to-day life. She has a rich and varied experience of four decades and is actively involved in consultancy projects, curriculum development and nutrition counselling. As a Senior Food Safety Specialist, EU-CITD project with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) she worked on the Safe and Nutritious Food (SNF) initiative and has contributed to ?The Pink Book? for housewives, ?Yellow Books? for school children and ?The Orange Book? for campuses to create a culture and mind set of Food Safety and Nutrition PAN India. Passionate about writing, she has authored several textbooks and guides in her field of specialization like ?Tourism Operations and Management? for Oxford University Press, India, and ?Food Hygiene and Sanitation? for McGraw Hill Education (India), which have been of immense help to students pursuing higher education. In addition, she has authored several books and booklets on Cookery Theory and Practical, Food preservation and Home Science for the H.S.C. Board, M.S. and NCERT, New Delhi. The Nutrition tool kit for ?Ashoka Nourishing Schools Project? for school children comprising of Handbooks for trainers, teaching aids, games and charts has been designed and developed by her. These books have been translated into 4 Regional languages and are currently being used in 5 States in India. Awards Received: 1. Recipient of the First ?Eat Right India? Award (2018?19) in Professional Category instituted by FSSAI on World Food Safety Day 2019. 2. The first annual Excellence Award (October 2022) from Food Future Foundation for valuable contributions in the field of Foods and Nutrition and spreading Food Literacy Awareness for four decades. At present she is a Senior Advisor ? Content and Special Projects, for the Food Literacy Programme of the Food Future Foundation, New Delhi She puts her heart and soul into whatever she does, enjoys her work and believes nothing is impossible, if you have the will to do it. Her mission is to further simplify basic concepts of nutrition and food safety and make it interesting, sustainable and applicable so that India is ?Food Literate? in the next few years.
