Rami Chhabra debuts into the world of fiction with Becoming the Storm, but she is a well-known print-media and TV personality of several decades standing. Her life and work represent sustained commitment to women and social development issues addressed through multiple roles spanning media, public advocacy, administration, international consultancies and volunteer work, the last of which as the founder-president of Streebal, a non-profit working for women?s issues and community upliftment since 1975. She attended the International Women?s Conference in Mexico City in 1975 as an invited UN fellow and was an official delegate to the UN Women?s Decade Conference in Nairobi in 1985. Amongst scores of international and national consultations and a life of worldwide travel, one that stands out is a reportage from Vietnam right after the war end in July 1975. Breaking Ground: Journey into the Media ... and Out is her memoir published by National Book Trust India (2012). Angadh Raste: Media Kshetra Mein Aagman ... aur Alvida (NBT, 2018) is the Hindi translation. She has also authored several technical monographs and 7 children?s books. Born in Dehra Ismail Khan in 1938, Rami Chhabra graduated in English honours from Miranda House, Delhi University. In 2005, she was honoured by Farleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey, with a Doctor of Humane Letters. The late Dr Michael Adams, then president of International Association of University Presidents, hailed her as a ?steadfast and independent voice for women?.
