M Rajaram

DrM Rajaram has been an IAS officer of rare distinction with more than 34 years of service with the Tamil Nadu government. As an officer of the government he has been instrumental in many development work, among them for: opening 120 new Primary, High and Higher Sec schools; established Book Banks in 525 schools; implemented Foster Parents Scheme for the benefit of 5,000 poor school girls; introduced the School Clusters in 63 Chennai Corporation schools; Released and rehabilitated 200 bonded labourers in Tiruttani Division; formed a Society for Prevention of AIDS in the Chennai Corporation; Computerised the revenue records in all the 906 villages in Thanjavur district; creation of the Thirukkural Art Gallery, Sangam Tamil Art Gallery and Ancient Tamils Art Gallery and for publication of 200 rare Tamil Books of 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries. Rajaram is the recipient of many awards, among them the Malcom Adiseshiah Award for Meritorious Literary Service, 1999; Gandhiya Vashista Vidya Shiksha Award for taking Gandhi to schools, 1995; Anna Award for Excellence for Promotion of Literacy, 1990.
