An Ungrateful Nation

  • Format:

Standing in front of India gate, along with his two sons, Colonel Shaurya Veer Singh, a third generation Indian Army officer, reminisces of the life gone by. In the 22 years of donning the Olive Green of the Indian Army, he has seen challenges & combat at close quarters, often shrouded with death. Having seen it in the eye, once too often he felt that it would take something herculean to shake his composure & bearing. But the recent events have not merely shaken him up but put into question the fibre & ethos of his life. As he struggles with the recent events of having lost his dear friend Col Sandeep Unnithan in the desolate valley of Galwan, he wonders at what life has in store for him. But a bigger question looms over him, amidst the shadow of his retired Father Brigadier Chandrabhan Singh’s recent hospitalisation due to a fracas at his hometown with lumpen elements, of what advice to give to his son, on the cusp of commencing his professional journey, having been selected in the Service Selection Board. As he thinks about his Anchor, his life partner for the past 20 years, Vandana, and his need for her wise counsel, he realises that the cat would have to be belled by him. Of allowing his son to join the Army, or to seek adventure in an ever evolving and open world

Mohit was born in Ferozpur, Punjab: India. Courtesy the fact that his father donned the Armed Forces Uniform for 38 years, he grew up in multiple locations across India. This was instrumental in giving him a first hand understanding of the Country at large. As he joined the corporate world this view of the Nation got further enriched with a deeper understanding of the Hinterland. During his 30's he delved into endurance sports starting from running & eventually moving onto Triathlons ( He has successfully completed 3 Ironman events and 2 Ironman 70.3). The sojourns into foreign shores reignited his passion for writing. While he had been active during his school days, it had been lying dormant for decades. He has tried to unravel the trials and tribunals of life & corporate life with Running as the Canvas. The first book 1000 KMs to Leadership is the first in the trilogy of books dealing with life's journeys enmeshed with endurance sports. His style is straight forward laced with humor & subtle sarcasm and believes that a book is successful if each reader takes away a unique experience for herself/himself. He further believes that the layering needs to add to the richness of the writing rather than create a complex mesh.
