The book ‘from audio-visual aids to educational technology’, symbolizes the evolution and development of Educational technology and covers the journey from the traditional graphics and in-expensive teaching-learning aids. It depicts the setting up of audio-visual education cell in the Ministry of education, Govt. Of India in 1948 and the establishment of audio-visual education units in the state departments of education, with the audio-visual education officers as their heads. The book highlights the beginning of the telecast of Educational television programs through the satellite for the first time in 1975–76 in nearly 2400 villages of 6 states time and the Indian Education satellite known as ‘satellite for education’ in 1981–82 was exclusively devoted to educational programs. —Prof. Harmesh Lal.\n\n
Prof. Harmesh Lal worked in the NCERT, N. Delhi for more than 37 years. He was actively involved in imparting training in audio-visual education to the teachers and teacher-educators. Dr. Lal produced more than 200 edl. TV and audio programs for the children and the teachers. He wrote more than 40 papers, manuals and articles which were published in National and International journals. Besides organising training courses, seminars and workshops, a series of research studies in various aspects of edl. Media and Technology were conducted. As Executive Producer, ETV programs produced by him won awards in national and international competitions. After his retirement, Dr. Lal worked in the Min of HRD, Deptt. of Edu. as Honorary Consultant and prepared a database of about 10, 000 ETV programs produced by the CIET, SIETS, NIOS etc.
