British scholar Thomas William Rhys Davids (1843-1922) was an expert in the ancient Indian language Pall and served as Professor of Pall and Buddhist Literature at the University College, London from 1882 to 1904. Prof. Davids was also the Chairman of the Pall Text Society, Secretary and Librarian of the Royal Asiatic Society and a constant contributor to its publications.
