Governance and Management of Higher Education in India is the fifth book in the series India Higher Education Report initiated by the Centre for Policy Research in Higher Education, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration. The book examines macro issues of governance, focusing on the role of the state and market, regulation at national and state levels, and accountability measures. It also looks at institutional issues of autonomy, affiliation, teacher recruitment, and managing quality and excellence. The discussions in the book centre on theoretical perspectives and empirical evidences. The volume will be an important resource for academics, policy makers as well as scholars and researchers of public policy, political science and economics.
N. V. Varghese is Vice Chancellor, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) and also the founding director of the Centre for Policy Research in Higher Education (CPRHE) at NIEPA. Formerly, he was the Head, Governance and Management of Education, International Institute of Educational Planning (IIEP/ UNESCO), Paris. Garima Malik is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Policy Research in Higher Education at the NIEPA. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Delhi. She was a fellow at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations and worked as an economist with Tata Services Limited and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
