Locking plates are now established as numero uno implant for fracture fixation. The locking plates because of their superior fixation quality in complex and osteoporotic fracture broaden indications for plating. However, they still fail when their exact principles are not followed. This work presents in a compact form, all the important principles and practices of locking plates that lead a surgeon to successful fracture fixation.
Dr Anand J. Thakur has been in orthopaedic practice since 1975. He received his MS (Ortho) degree from the University of Bombay in 1970 and his MBBS from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore in 1965. He is currently in private practice in Mumbai. He is also teaching postgraduate courses in orthopaedics. He has authored the acclaimed award winning books The Elements of Fracture Fixation and Strategic Radiographic Positioning for Orthopaedicians and Radiologists and has published a number of research papers in indexed journals. He has been president of Bombay Orthopaedic Society. He is a Life member of Indian Orthopaedic Association and Associated Overseas Member, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
