R.K. Raghavan took his Master's Degree in Politics and Public Administration from the Madras University in 1962. He also holds a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from the Temple University, Philadelphia and a Ph.D in Political Science from the Karnataka University, Dharwad. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1963. He has served both the Tamil Nadu Police and the Government of India, New Delhi. He has recently been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. He is currently Director, Central Bureau of Investigation. Dr. Raghavan is the author of Indian Police: Problems, Planning and Perspectives (Manoher, 1989). He has attended several international conferences on policing. He is a frequent contributor to the Hindu and Frontline.
