River Ganga: A Cartographic Mystery

  • Format:

This important volume would go a long way in deciphering the mystery and fascination the Indian subcontinent, especially the holy river Ganga has held for cartographers from time immemorial.

P.L. Madan joined the National Archives of India in 1955 and has since then made the study of maps a life-long obsession. Having been posted, from the very beginning, in the Map Section of the National Archives, he has had ample time and opportunity to study the exquisite, hand-drawn, original maps of the Survey of India on which the book is based. He joined the International Society for the History of Cartography, London in 1975 and has spent considerable time studying maps and records in various libraries and research centres.
