The present volume is actually a combined edition of two books, viz., Sannyasi and Fakir Raiders in Bengal (193) and Sannyasis in Mymensingh (1923) by Jamini Mohan Ghosh. For various reasons – social and political – they were largely forgotten by the succeeding generations. But today the subject of these books, i.e. Sannyasi and Fakir Uprising or Rebellion is being given due importance by scholars. Hence the necessity of bringing them to the notice of the reading public is imperative. The Introduction to this volume by the editor clearly explains why and in what respect these two books are quite relevant to the present discourse on the history of colonial Bengal.
