Konark is proud to present its newest title, this time focused on the most important topic ? our environment. The Raging Himalayas and a Warming Planet: Recollections of the 2013 Himalayan Floods and Reflections on Global Warming, by Asokan Vengassery Krishnan, is a timely book, coming as it does days after the massive floods in Himachal Pradesh that washed away houses, cars, people and livestock earlier in July 2023. This book reminds us that human greed, by way of concretising the fragile ecosystem of the mountains, is a sure sign of oncoming disaster. The book reflects on the harrowing experiences that the author and a small group of friends endured during the catastrophic floods in the Himalayas in June 2013 when they were on a pilgrimage to the Char Dham in Uttarakhand. Besides recounting their ordeal, the author also discusses his concerns on global warming and climate change and contemplates on the wisdom and invaluable contributions made by a select few visionaries towards preserving the environment. Asokan Vengassery Krishnan is a Konark author, and his first book, Sree Narayana Guru: The Perfect Union of Buddha and Sankara was published in 2018.
Asokan Vengassery Krishnan, a native of Kerala, immigrated to the US in the mid-1980s and studied and worked there for over 30 years. Before retiring in mid-2022, he was working as a senior accounting professional at a prestigious international corporation headquartered in Philadelphia.
