A poetry collection that captures the life in Sri Lanka during the pandemic even as the poet deals with a personal crisis. Unexpectedly is a moving treatise that rages from the personal to the political, penned during a time in which Sri Lanka teetered on the edge of political chaos. The themes range from universal topics such as war, feminism, humanity, to the deeply personal the author's privileged status as the First Lady of Sri Lanka, her life in academia, her husband's political position, her battle with cancer, her mother's death.\n\nWritten in a voice that is both passionate and ironic, these poems are haunting and imaginative, at once personal even as they are historical.
